PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Evoqua Water Technologies Corp. (NYSE:AQUA), an industry leader in mission-critical water treatment solutions, together with the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins, today announced a new joint community program, called A Great Day for Our Ice, to help build a stronger connection with youth hockey associations across greater Pittsburgh and underscore the important role water plays in all aspects of daily life.
As part of the program, Evoqua will provide vials for local youth hockey associations to collect ice shavings from their home rinks in early September. The shavings will be collected during the Penguins’ annual Free Game for Kids, which will be held Saturday, September 28, when the Penguins play the Buffalo Sabres in a preseason game at PPG Paints Arena.
Once the melted ice from local youth hockey rinks is filtered and treated using Evoqua systems, the water will then be transferred to the Evoqua Zamboni and smoothed into PPG Paints ice surface.
“Partnering in this program was a natural reflection of our brand purpose as an organization – transforming water and enriching life, and a great way for us to give back to the local community,” said Snehal Desai, Chief Growth Officer for Evoqua. “Clean water plays a critical role in so many aspects of life, business and industry, including ice quality.”
Bringing the exchange of home ice full circle, at the end of the season the Penguins plan to have players collect ice shavings from PPG Paints Arena in similar vials and deliver them to select community rinks.
